Renata Carneiro
Renata Carneiro is a PhD student in the Food Science and Technology department at Virginia Tech and a fellow with the Water INTERface IGEP. She started her PhD after obtaining a B.S. in Food Engineering from Federal University of Viçosa in Brazil, an M.S. in Life Sciences from Virginia Tech, and an M.B.A. in Project Management from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. Her research uses sensory, consumer, and flavor science applications to promote sustainable development and production of domestic edamame in the U.S. Renata grew up in Brazil and enjoys baking, boxing, hanging out with friends, and watching movies in her free time. She is also an active student leader, serving as president of the Honor Society of Food Science and Technology, president of the Latin American and Iberian Graduate Students Association (LAIGSA), and graduate student representative for the Food Science and Technology Diversity and Inclusion Committee. After graduating, Renata plans to continue in academia and hopes to become a professor.
